Transformations

The transformations in the an equation that is in Vertex form are:

                                                                                                     a(x-h)^2+k

 

  •     a- the represents the Verticle Stretch (narrow graph) or Compression (wide graph) of the graph.

  • (-)a- if a is negative then the Direction of Opening will be down and if a is positive then the Direction of Opening will be up.

  •     h- The h in Vertex form represents the Horizontal Translation left or right.

  •     k- the k in Vertex form represents the Verticle Translation up or down.

Here is an example that I did online. The example will show you how to graph using vertex form and explain how to write the transformations.
